"The Grand John Green Request"...If John Green reads AND comments on any post, I will do something awesome.

It's time to come out of the basement. In case it wasn't already blatantly obvious in a handful of my earlier posts, I am a Nerdfighter. I have been for almost a year and while "Nerdfighter" might be the type of label that inspires incredulous looks when spoken aloud to people who aren't familiar with the term, it is something that I am incredibly proud to call myself everyday. I strongly suggest that everyone who reads this post and is not familiar with the community that is Nerdfighteria go to http://www.nerdfighters.ning.com/ and www.youtube.com/vlogbrothers immediately. And by "immediately" I of course mean when you finish reading my brilliant and witty new survey answers.

And with my decision to proudly declare my blog as a pro-Nerdfighter site (anti-Nerdfighters scare me...) I have also decided to finally open up my writing to Mr. Green, should he choose to read it. Friends have encouraged me to tag him in my Facebook notes for a while, but I straight up didn't have the courage. But now I have told him of my writing aspirations to his face on two separate occasions (with the help of my uncle, the Westport "Sound Guy") and while he may not remember me or the impact his work as had on me personally, quite frankly I need a fire under my ass. And what could possibly motivate me like the embarrassingly sizable fear that my favorite author might actually someday somehow follow a link I send him to my blog and ya know...read some of it. Yikes. And so for those that are interested, go to http://www.sparksflyup.com/ and read the comments for the Nov. 30th post titled "Survey" and wish me an all new awesome kind of luck.

Now, John. I believe you had a request for your readers. And seeing as I have now met that request, I ask one of you. If you read this post, or any other post I have written and prove your doing so with a comment, I will do something awesome of your choosing. If that means donating money to charity, volunteering with my little sister's high school Nerdfighting club, or anything else you can think of, I will gladly do it in your name and in the name of Nerdfighteria and submit proof to you in whatever form you request. Thank you, and thanks for being awesome.

(Chosen randomly. If you have better surveys, send me links in comments. Also post links to your responses.)-Request made by John Green on November 30, 2008

1. What's your name? Lindsay Rae Slater, and I'm one of those horrible, obnoxious people that like, really REALLY love their name.

2. What is your favorite thing to wear? In typical Lindsay Rae fashion (mmm puns), there are two sides to that coin. I am most comfortable in jeans, a tie dyed tee, cardigans, hand made jewelry and shoes that usually look like they should sport a Birkenstock label. However the awful truth is that I am most confident in your typical girly attire: overly priced, poorly made trendy outfits that usually consist of boots, tights, oversized sweaters and costume jewelry.

3. Last thing you ate? When Kevin got home from work he heated up a bowl of my stuffing for me, complete with a layer of cranberry sauce on top, further proving that he loves me and that there is no one else on earth that I could possibly marry.

4. One place you will NEVER eat at? Arby's makes my skin crawl in a way usually reserved for spiders and Tom Cruise.

5. I say Shotgun, you say: My back hurts. It usually works and sadly, it’s usually true.

6. Last person you hugged? Kevin.

7. Does anyone you know wanna date you? Not that I know of since becoming engaged and I certainly hope there’s still someone who wants to marry me.

8. Would you date anyone you met online? Well not now of course, but even before I doubt it. Its not that there’s anything wrong with it per se, I just like the experience of meeting someone in person too much.

9. Name something you like physically about yourself: My nose. I've always appreciated it for both its size and shape.

10. The last place you went out to dinner to? The last real restaurant I went to and actually sat down for a real meal was probably The Outback. Try to contain your shock. I just can't get enough of that damn bread.

11. Who is your best friend? Megan J. DeRosa for 14 happy years, thank you very much.

12. What time of the day is it?4:42 am....again....try to contain your shock. I'm trying to tire myself out so that I might go to sleep at a human time tomorrow night....er, tonight.

13. Who/What made you angry today? Someone, but I love them too much to disclose who here.

14. Baseball or Football? Easily football. I'm a die hard NY Giants fan. Go Mets, but at the end of the day its football and I've been known to claim my blood runs Blue & Red. (Recently someone pointed out to me that in fact it could be said that everyone's blood runs blue & red. Regardless.)

15. Ever gone skinny dipping? Yes, and until then I never really appreciated how much being naked can increase the memorability of an evening.

16. Favorite type of Food? Lobster bisque.

17. Favorite holiday: Halloween.

18. Do you download music: Often.

19. Do you care if your socks are dirty? Surprisingly little.

20. Opinion of Chinese symbol tattoos? They're better than tribal tattoos, but I prefer tattoos written in English, being an English speaker and an overall fan of the language.

21. Would you date the person who posted this? Oh. I may have forgotten about this question when I decided to make this the "Grand John Green Request Blog". Well on account of my engagement and his marriage and the fact that were pretty much strangers, no. I will say this, he has created a few characters that would have had some serious potential with a 16 year old Lindsay Rae.

22. Has anyone ever sang or played for you personally? Yes.

23. Do you love anyone? Many people.

24. Are colored contact lenses sexy? What an absolutely absurd question. I actually have a kind of alarmingly strong distaste for colored contact lenses. Really seeing someone's eyes is important to me. Nothing is sexier than the real thing.

25. Have you ever bungee jumped? Um, no. And I won’t.

26. Have you ever gone white-water rafting? No, but I'd like to if I could be guaranteed I wouldn't die, or be seriously injured, or really even minorly injured, or experience any sort of terrifying or all together wholly unsettling feelings.

27. Has anyone ten years older than you ever hit on you? I don't think so but I wouldn't be known to spot it if it happened.

28. How many pets do you have? Sort of a lot but really only one.

29. Have you met a real redneck? Yes but I'm still in the midst of deciding if its rednecks or hicks that I find discomforting because I'm sure there’s a difference.

30. How is the weather right now? Makes-you-ache-smells-like-snow-freezes-your-car-shut cold.

31. What are you listening to right now? "Chasing Pavements" Adele

32. What is your current favorite song? Ozone, "Numa Numa", cause I can't stop dancing much to the chagrin of those closest to me.

33. What was the last movie you watched? It's A Wonderful Life.

34. Do you wear contacts? Glasses, proudly.

35. Where was the last place you went besides your house? Gah, it’s sad when you can't remember right away. Cumbies, I think.

36. What are you afraid of? Too damn much.

37. How many piercing have you had? 7.

38. What piercing do you want? Probably a couple more on my ears, and maybe my belly button one day.

39. What's one thing you've learned this year?Nope, sorry. This year has been unquestioningly the most developmental year of my life thus far. So there simply can not be one answer.
a) I have learned that Megan DeRosa is still a wildly excellently best friend through the crappiest of times, and that, you know what? I might be too.b) I have learned that for me, there is no answer but to write.
c) I have learned how important it is to never forget to be awesome, and that when awesome people get together to do awesome things the results turn out to be exactly what the actual definition of the word awesome means.
d) I have learned that truly writing well is actually really really hard and time consuming and that I kind of suck at grammar and that my talent may have actually peaked at 17 but that I have to try anyway.
e) I have learned that my life is absolutely worth living and that what doesn't kill you really does make you stronger and that tomorrow I will absolutely wake up sane and reasonably healthy and that in the end, it. will. be. okay. I learned to not only choose, but kind of love the labyrinth.
f) I have learned that I don't need some magical big brother figure because he doesn't exist.
g) I have learned that my former magical big brother figure wasn't a waste of time because without him I don't know if I ever would have figured out the above realization.
h) I have learned that I am luckier than I ever thought I would be to have Kevin.
i) I have learned to have patience with my family.
j) I have learned that there is a brilliant, funny, talented 31 year old author living in Indianapolis, Indiana who writes incredible, honest, hysterical, painful, awkward, beautiful, touching books that I adore reading.
k) I have learned that while my sanity is invaluable, my insanity has provided me with years of material and a unique perspective that are also invaluable.
l) I have learned that there is sooooo much I have left to learn.

40. What do you usually order from Starbucks?Apple cider.

41. What Magazines are you reading? Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, Vogue, and New York.

42. Have you ever fired a gun: No but I'd like to...ideally not at a living thing.

43. Are you missing someone? My grandpa these days. I'd like for Becca to move back home though.

44. Favorite TV show? The Office, though I'm certain that Jim Halpert is a character specifically constructed to depress women.

45. Do you have an obsession with WoW? No. Somebody tried to get me into it once, but that somebody was a jerk so maybe it was just them. Seems like too much work though, and I love my Wii like, a lot.

46. Has anyone ever said you looked like a celebrity? A long time ago.

47. What celebrity do you look like? Well the celebrity people used to liken me to was Candance Cameron Bure, or DJ Tanner, which is fine, because it is in my opinion that she was the hottest of the Tanner girls.

48. Who would you like to see right now? I'd like to meet John Green again.

49. Favorite movie of all time? When Harry Met Sally is not the funniest, smartest, or most impressive piece of cinema I have ever seen. But it is my favorite.

50. Do you find yourself loved? Yes, thankfully.

51. Have you ever been caught doing something you weren't supposed to? Oh dozens of times, I've no doubt.

52. Favorite smell?I have to say John Green gave the best answer to this question I've probably ever heard (well, read) : Anything that smells like something in the past I can almost remember. So I'm stickin with that.

53. Butter, plain, or salted popcorn? Unfortunately I enjoy my popcorn best coated in a staggeringly unhealthy amount of both salt and butter (sometimes cinnamon and sugar as well, just to make sure I die a nice, early, bloated death).

54. What's something that really bugs you? Probably too much. Extreme selfishness probably tops the list though. In myself and in others. Also, I think I say "probably" too much, and that bugs me.

55. Do you like Michael Jackson?I enjoy his music for the most part. He probably didn't get to be a kid when he was young and that’s sad. But mostly I find him unnerving.

56. Taco Bell or Burger King? Taco Bell but it’ll be a while before I eat it again.

57. What's your favorite perfume? Chanel No. 5

58. Favorite baseball team? The New York Mets.

59. Ever call a 1-900 phone number?No.

60. What's the longest time you've gone without sleep? 42 hours, if I'm remembering correctly, and given the topic at hand, I very well may not be.

61. Last time you went bowling? About 2 and a half weeks ago, but it had been a long time before that. Actually, Kevin and I realized we were both decent bowlers that evening, so I might be seen at Valley Bowl more frequently in the future.

62. Where is the weirdest place you have slept? Probably a park bench in DisneyWorld, but I was 8.

63. Who was your last phone call? Meg, no surprise there. We've spent months of our lives on the phone together.

64. Last time you were at work? For fear of embarrassment, I am going to use John Green's answer again: That all depends on how you define "at" and "work."

65. What's the closest orange object to you?My lighter, located atop my cigarettes, 10 inches from me.

Alright John. You're up.

Great survey Lindsay. I really loved your responses. Is something wrong with the house phone btw? I've tried calling it, and no one picks up :( Maybe I'll post my own, and e-mail it to you.

Westport Sound Guy FTW!

I was the one with John's camera and a scarf that said 'DFTBA' in binary.

How nice to find a fellow blogging nerdfighter!
